We love hanging out at the beach when we’re in Sitges but you have to get up early to bag a lounger by the bar or a spot at the water’s edge as the boys in this town don’t sleep on a hangover.
If you hit snooze too many times you’ll be stuck laying out your towels on the last remaining narrow strip of sand that’s being used by several hundred Pride or Bear Week sun-seekers to make their way down to the water for a swim. And although we’re bona fide beach bums there’s a limit to how much we can work the salt-sprayed, sand-blasted and windswept look before the appeal of a day by the pool becomes irresistible.
Now, call us boujis, but we love a rooftop martini pool and Avenida Sofia’s Sky Bar with its clean white styling and chilled tunes is a little bit ‘Ibiza-meets-Sitges’ and when you sit with a cocktail while you drink-in the panoramic views of the sea on one side and mountains on the other you’ll have no doubt you’re at the most chic residence in town. Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, we recommend going by the Sky Bar for sundowner drinks.
As we know oh so well from our recent trip to Madrid (when it snowed) good weather is never guaranteed but even the rain in Spain couldn’t dampen our spirits on our last trip to Sitges as the hotel has an absolutely fantastic spa.
Kitted out with hydro-massage jets, oxygen chamber and cold plunge pools the hydrotherapy spa circuit provides much needed rehab when you need something more than hair-of-the-dog to recharge you for the next night’s shenanigans. Again, if you’re not staying at the hotel, consider buying a day-pass to the spa if the weather takes an unseasonal turn.
We’ve stayed in a few of the rooms and although even the smaller rooms are perfectly well equipped, it’s well worth upgrading to a suite if only for the large bathtub so you can relax with a bottle of champagne at the end of a night out partying in the many bars and clubs.
